Tien Chih

Assistant Professor of Mathematics

I grew up in Hilo, Hawaii where I attended the University of Hawaii at Hilo.  The mentorship of Dr. Ramon Figueroa inspired me to not only become a mathematician, but a teacher and mentor as well.  I attended the University of Montana for my doctorate, and after teaching at Newberry College and MSUB I am now here at Oxford College!

My primary research interest is in discrete homotopy theory and in particular ×-homotopy.  I am interested in OERs and EdTech having developed several tools, resources, interactices and OERs.  I am passionate about undergraduate research, and have supervised several undergraduate projects, including one funded by the Center for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics.  As I believe math suffers greatly from having a disconect between its reputation and is content, I am actively involved in math outreach, working with others in the community, and having ran a MAA funded Math Circle for several years.

I really enjoy cooking, gardening, biking and spending time with my wife and sons!
