Deric Shannon grew up in Indiana, where he received his BA and MA at Ball State University. He then completed his PhD at the University of Connecticut in Sociology with a graduate certificate in Women's Studies. His current teaching and research centers on global political economy, the sociology of food, sustainability, and ecology.
