Roderick Stubbs

Athletic Director and Head Men's Basketball Coach

Roderick Stubbs was introduced as the athletic director in June of 2013 and will continue his role as head men’s basketball coach. Stubbs’ new role will consist of overseeing and supervising all nine of the Eagles’ varsity sports teams, marketing, budgets, and eligibility and compliance requirements.

Stubbs became the 4th Head Coach in Oxford College basketball history on August 1, 2005, beginning a new era in Oxford Basketball.  Heading into the 2018-2019 season he had compiled over 191 wins.

Under Stubbs guidance throughout the last eight years, the Eagles have reached the sweet 16 of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in 2006, and the tournaments round of 32 in 2007. The 2012-2013 posted the most wins in school history by producing a 23 and 8 record, one season after going 21-10.  Oxford was also Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) regular season champions 4 out of the past seven seasons and in 2016 won the GCAA tournament championship. 

Stubbs was award the GCAA Region 17 Coach of the Year award in 2014 and 2016. 

Stubbs has cultivated five NJCAA All-Americans in Austin DeAngelis and 2-Time winner Chad Hixon, Peter Ricks, Alex Ordu and Patrick Burns while developing 20 all-region performers. More importantly, eight Oxford basketball teams have been honored as NJCAA All-Academic teams, and have consistently excelled in the classroom.

In March 2016, he was awared the Emory University Award of Distinction in special recognition for outstanding service and contrtibutions. 

Stubbs came to Oxford from Morehouse College, where he served as head assistant coach for 5 out of his 13 years at Morehouse. During his career at Morehouse College, Coach Stubbs performed numerous duties as the head assistant basketball coach. Some of his major duties included: defensive coordinator, game preparation and scouting, and player development.  Coach Stubbs helped lead the program to three NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament Berths in 1995, 2003 and 2004; one SIAC Tournament Championship in 2003; four straight SIAC Regular Season Visitation Championships in 2000-2004; and having a Top 25 Nationally Ranked defense from 2002-03 through 2004-05. 

An All-State performer at Jackson Central-Merry High School in Jackson, Tennessee, Stubbs entered Morehouse College in the fall of 1988, and had an outstanding playing career.  Stubbs was a power forward on teams that posted records of 25-4, 26-7, 21-11 and 18-8.  The 1990 team advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four, and during his playing career, Stubbs captured four SIAC Divisional Titles, won two SIAC tournament championships, was part of two NCAA tournament berth teams, and led a team that was ranked #1 in the nation by Sports Illustrated in the preseason of 1991. Coach Stubbs was also a two-time varsity captain.

The Jackson, Tennessee native earned his Bachelor’s degree in Management from Morehouse College in 1992, and a Masters in Sports Administration from Georgia State University in 1995.  Coach Stubbs is married and lives in Lithonia, GA.
